National Prescription Take Back Meds Day Is Saturday

On Saturday, the Omaha Police Department, Ralston Police and Plattsmouth Police are joining the DEA, LiveWise and UNMC and Creighton schools of pharmacy in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.  This is an attempt to prevent drug abuse and theft by getting all expired and unwanted prescription drugs and over the counter medications out of homes.

Last October, about 456 tons of prescription drugs were turned at during the semi-annual event.  In 14 previous Take Back events more than 4,500 tons of medications were disposed of.

The service is free, anonymous with no questions asked.  Only pills and patches will be accepted.  They will not take liquids or needles.

The event runs from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Drop off locations in the metro area include:  Hy-Vee at 180th and Pacific, 156th and Maple, 132nd and Dodge and 90th and Center.  Walgreen's drop off locations include 132nd and Center, 84th and Harrison, 30th and Lake and 24th and Vinton.  Elmwood Pharmacy at 52nd and Leavenworth is also participating.  The drop off location in Plattsmouth is the Senior Center.
