Wednesday Is Peanut Free At Storm Chasers Game

There will be no nuts allowed at Wednesday night's Omaha Storm Chasers baseball game at Werner Park. They are teaming with the Asthma and Allergy Center for their fifth annual "Peanut Free Night" at the ballpark.

Omaha Storm Chasers General Manager Martie Cordaro says this is one of the most important community events of the year and they are pleased to provide a safe environment for everyone who would otherwise not be able to attend a professional baseball game.

Cordaro says, "Ballpark staff start cleaning at the end of the previous home stand and we pick a longer break so they have enough time not only to power wash and sweep up but also to vacuum the berm, grass area, rock beds and wipe down all the seats, tables and picnic areas."

Cordaro says their concession stand menu will be different as well.  They are pulling all peanut items or items that are made in factories where peanuts are present.  That includes sunflower seeds and all tree nut items.

The Asthma and Allergy Center is also using this as an opportunity to raise awareness about food allergy and for their patients to learn about new products, research and education.  It is estimated that approximately three million people living in the U.S. report suffering from peanut related allergies.
