Restaurant Helps Foster Kids Get Their First Cars

A restaurant in Olathe, Kansas, and their customers are helping teenagers in foster care get their first set of wheels. At Strip’s Chicken, they ask diners if they want to round up their total and donate their change and then they match those donations. The money goes to YOUTHrive, an organization that mentors and helps foster kids learn financial planning and independent living.

Todd Thompson, owner of Strip’s Chicken, says that over the last few years they’ve raised around $15-thousand with the help of their customers. That money has gone to help 13 foster teens get their first cars.

“They’re so excited! You can see the joy in their eyes,” Thompson says. “I think it provides them a peace of mind, that they’re loved, that people are caring about the success of their future.”
