Author James Patterson Gives $500 Grants To Thousands Of Teachers

James Patterson is known for writing best-selling books like “Along Came A Spider” and “Kiss the Girls” and now he’s working to help teachers build reading skills in their students. Thousands of teachers will be getting $500 from the author through a grant program administered through Scholastic Book Clubs.

Out of over 10-thousand applicants, 5-thousand teachers were chosen for the grants, which will include the $500 from Patterson, as well as 500 club points from Scholastic. And this isn’t the first time he’s been generous with educators, he’s given $11-million to teachers over the years, along with millions more to bookstores, libraries and literary organizations.

“Reading teaches kids empathy, gives them an escape when they most need it, helps them grapple with harsh realities, and perhaps most importantly, will remind them that they are not alone — even if they’re unable to see their teachers, classmates and friends in-person," the author says.
