A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect until midnight that includes the Omaha, Council Bluffs, and Lincoln metro areas. Severe storms will continue to develop and move through the area up until the midnight hours packing high winds and isolated large hail. A spotty tornado cannot be ruled out either as storms initially develop.
Storm will initially move through our western counties and likely to be in the Omaha between 7pm and 11pm this evening. Some wind gusts could be in excess of 70mph as storms make their way on through.
Once the greatest severe threat is over at midnight, we could see additional non-severe storms develop for the rest of the night time hours. These could produce locally heavy rains, in excess of three inches, which brings up flash flooding concerns.
Power outages in Council Bluffs have affected 3,200 MidAmerican Energy customers. Call to report an outages.
