Omaha drivers will have to make some adjustments and prepare for the shut down of several freeway interchanges.
The Nebraska Department of Transportation has shut down the northbound Highway 75 interchanges to I-480 North and I-80 West. The westbound I-80 connector to northbound 480 will also be closed.
The F Street ramps to the JFK Freeway are closed and will stay that way until the fall. This is just one part of a massive construction project that will force commuters to find another way downtown.
It's the second phase of a $10 million project to improve the bridges at these busy freeway interchanges.
"These bridges are roughly 25-30 years old and if you go you can actually see the bad patches in spots that need to be replaced,” said Derek Torczon with Nebraska Dept. of Transportation.
He suggests drivers taking this detour:
- Take US-75 north and continue to I-80 east
- From there, take I-29 north
- Then pick up I-480 west until you hit 75 northbound once again
