Tornado Sirens Will Be Tested Today

Spring has arrived, along with the increased frequency of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes.  With that in mind, this is Severe Weather Awareness Week; and a highlight will be the issuance of a mock, or practice Tornado Watch and Tornado Warning Wednesday morning.

The Storm Prediction Center will issue a test Tornado Watch for all counties in Nebraska and Iowa at 10:00 AM CDT Wednesday;  at 10:15 AM, Nebraska and Iowa weather offices will issue a test Tornado Warning for counties for which they are responsible.

If actual severe weather shows up, the mock watch and warning would be pushed back to the next day.

National Weather Service meteorologist Ken Podrazek says the drill is an opportunity to develop plans for where you’d go in the event a real tornado warning is issued.

Podrazek says, " This is a great time for local businesses and schools to practice their preparation plans, and get to safety."
