Salvation Army Seeks Donations For Summer Fan Program

With record breaking heat already this summer, some of the metro's most vulnerable residents can't afford to turn on their air conditioning. That is why the Salvation Army is getting down to business now by ramping up their 2018 Summer Fan Program.

The Salvation Army is collecting new fans for its fan program, which runs June 4th through September 7th.  The fan program is critical because summer heat can pose dangerous health consequences for the elderly, ill or disabled. These fans are provided completely free of cost to the recipients who need them.

This year, Army officials expect a higher demand for free fans earlier in the season due to warmer than normal air temperatures. For those metro residents who qualify, applications are available at The Salvation Army Burrows Center, 6101 NW Radial Highway. Hours for the Burrow Center are 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday.

Priority is given to people who are 50 years or older and those with medical disabilities. Proof of medical disability is required when applying for a fan. New fans may be dropped off during business hours at the Burrows Center Monday through Friday throughout the summer.

Westlake Ace Hardware is partnering with The Salvation Army in the annual summer fan drive and donations can be made at any of their locations June 7th through June 24th.

Monetary donations to purchase new fans are also welcome, with the retail cost of a basic fan being approximately $25.00. Monetary donations to the Summer Fan Program can also be mailed to The Salvation Army, 10755 Burt Street Omaha, Nebraska 68114 or donate online here
