Third-grader with cancer in remission donates birthday gifts to sick kids

In a touching gesture, a California third-grader whose cancer is in remission donated her birthday presents to the hospital where she received treatment.

Zoe Figueroa requested friends and family celebrate her eighth birthday by donating toys to the Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center, according to NBC’s “Today.”

“Zoe is remarkable,” her mom, Sheena Figueroa, told the show. “She said to me, ‘I have everything I need.’”

The Lakeside, California, girl recently completed her final treatment for stage 4 neuroblastoma, a rare childhood cancer that develops from nerve cells.

She told her parents that instead of gifts for her July 6 party, she wanted to give back to other children at the hospital.
