Jean Manning, a terminally ill single mom of a son with Down syndrome, moved to Massachusetts four years ago and formed a special bond with one of his teachers. Special education teacher Kerry Bremer had Jake in her class at CASE collaborative school and says she fell in love with him instantly.
Bremer knew Jake would need a home when his mom died and she approached the subject with his mom and offered for her family to become his guardians, if she needed them. Jean accepted and was relieved because her biggest fear was what would happen to Jake after she died. They spent years taking him to appointments together and celebrating holidays together so the transition would be easier for him.
