Lawmakers Accept Teen's Challenge To Spend A Day in A Wheelchair

A Tennessee teen is challenging lawmakers to spend a day in a wheelchair and to experience the life that he lives every day. 14 yr old Alex Johnson, has been in a wheelchair since the 2nd grade. He has a form of skeletal dysplasia -which is a condition that affects the growth of bones and cartilage.

He wanted them to know what it felt like to be disabled. To realize how a handicap accessible building is important and how some doors can become heavy and even opening a refrigerator door seems like a big challenge.

The lawmakers took the challenge and it was definitely eye-opening experience for the legislators. They are very proud of Alex and the effort he is making in his community to create greater understanding of disabilities and the ability to educate others.
