A teen in Pennsylvania has been volunteering at a nursing home for more than a year and she was heartbroken when her visits were put on hold because of coronavirus. Hita Gupta missed the interaction with residents and knew the seniors would be lonely and bored without being able to see their families. So the 15-year-old started making goodie bags to bring them some joy during quarantine.
Hita puts a large print puzzle book, an adult coloring book, and coloring pencils in each bag, which she says will help stimulate residents’ minds and keep them occupied. She also includes a note of encouragement, which her nine-year-old brother helps her write. So far, she’s made packages for 23 nursing homes in the Philadelphia area and she plans to keep it up until the health crisis is over.
