A teenager in Iowa had his first solo scuba dive and ended up saving a man’s life. Calvin Grosvenor was excited about his first dive without an instructor since getting certified last November and headed out with an experienced adult partner in West Okoboji Lake. But about five minutes in, he noticed the man seizing up and sinking to the bottom of the lake.
When the teen realized the man wasn’t okay, he focused on two things: making sure he was breathing and getting him back to shore. Calvin kept his cool and stayed calm during the emergency situation and did what he was trained to do. And he ended up saving the man because of it.
“It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done,” he admits.
