Experts Say Dogs Are Scared of Facemaskes

While facemasks may protect humans from the coronavirus, it may be having a negative side effect for pooches. According to experts, wearing such masks can leave dogs confused and “concerned” because it keeps them from reading facial expressions. “As face masks become an increasingly common sight in our daily lives, we should make sure our dogs are also able to take this in their stride,” Dr. Jenna Kiddie, head of behavior at the animal charity Dogs Trust, “Without being able to see full faces, a dog is less able to interpret human emotion or our intentions.

Experts said that maybe avoid taking your dog in public as they may be confused when seeing large crowds with people wearing facemasks. Also to walk your dogs in the quieter periods of the day and avoid tying your dog up outside where people are located.
