A Florida family’s day at the beach would have surely ended in tragedy had it not been for the quick actions of their nine-year-old son. Asaih Williams and his dad were going for one last swim before the end of their day at Quietwater Beach in Pensacola. Shortly after sunset Asaih jumped from the ferry dock into the water and his father,Josh, dove in head first after him. When Asaih surfaced, he noticed his dad was laying face down in the water and knew something was wrong. Even though his father is more than 100 pounds heavier, the boy managed to flip him over and slowly tug him back to shore. Bystanders then stepped in, helping to get the father on land and calling an ambulance.
Josh was transported to a local hospital and then transferred to another hospital for surgery to his spine. "He's working on trying to get his feeling back in his arms and legs," says Asaih’s mom, Audrey Williams, who adds that they don’t believe that Josh’s injuries will be life-altering. "Doctors are saying he should have a full recovery. He's progressing pretty fast."
"I'm so grateful that (Asaih) was there for him because if he wasn't there, my husband probably wouldn't be here today," Audrey says. "He's daddy's hero, that's for sure."
