Kroger Hires Homeless Woman Who Lived In Her Car In Their Parking Lot

A homeless woman forced to live in her car, got a job at one of the stores she often stay near.

LaShenda Williams struggled with drug addiction and abuse issues, and that left her living in her car for about a year. She frequently stayed in the parking lot of a Kroger grocery store.

Then she met Jackie Vandal, who’s a hiring manager for the grocery chain. Williams showed up and Vandal helped her fill out the online application. As soon as she read LaShenda’s experience and qualifications, the hiring manager gave the woman a job.

That was back in December. What a difference the job has made for Williams! She’s now able to afford a one-bedroom apartment, with furniture supplied by co-workers. The community also pitched in to help get LaSenda back on her feet.
