An Irish couple in their 80s have been together for decades, but just got around to getting married. John Bermingham, 86, and his bride, Mary Long, 83, met more than 40 years ago and planned to make things official long ago, but they say life got in the way. After coronavirus delays, they decided to not wait any more and said “I do” in a civil marriage over the weekend.
John’s daughter, Carolyn, says being married “means an awful lot to them” because they “do have old-fashioned values,” but a lot of things delayed their wedding plans over the years. Eventually, the couple decided to tie the knot now because they were afraid one of them would pass away before they got the chance.
