Man Donates Baseball Card Collection To Kid Who Lost Hers In Wildfire

A California man is about to make a little girl he’s never met extremely happy. Kevin Ashford of San Jose heard about nine-year-old Reese Osterberg, who lost her home in Fresno County last month in the Creek Fire and he wanted to help this fellow baseball fan out. She lost her precious baseball card collection, which she had built up to 100 cards over the last three years.

When the firefighters heard Reese’s story, they started asking for donations to replace her lost cards. Ashford also has a baseball card collection, but he’s been adding to his since the 1990s, so it’s a little bigger - we’re talking 25-thousand cards. And he decided to donate the entire collection to Reese.

A team of first responders came to his home to help cart off the dozens of boxes of baseball cards and deliver them to her. Ashford has no idea what his collection would be worth if he sold them, but he knows they’ll be in the right hands with Reese. He says, “I would give anything to see the smile on her face when she receives them.”
