Carjacker Surrenders After Realizing There’s A Kid In The Car

When a mom left her car running in a Salt Lake City motel parking lot so she could run into the lobby and check in, she thought nothing of it. But a guy looking for a quick getaway spotted the car and took the chance to steal the vehicle.

Francisco Esmerado, 23, jumped into the car and sped away, but as he was pulling onto the interstate, he realized there was a kid in the back seat. When he saw the car owner’s 12-year-old son was sitting there, Esmerado decided to do the right thing.

The carjacker flagged down a police car, told the officer about his crime, and turned himself in so the kid could be reunited with his mother. This display of morality from the criminal kept this scary situation from turning into something much worse.
