“The Simpsons” Shoots Down Another TV Milestone

Sunday night's episode of "The Simpsons" is the top dog in scripted TV shows.

The episode titled "Forgive and Regret" will be the 636th since the show debuted on Fox in 1989. The animated series surpassed the record of the highest number of scripted episodes for any primetime show was held by "Gunsmoke."

As a tribute to the CBS Western series, "The Simpsons" created a special sequence that shows Maggie gunning down Matt Dillon is a spoof of "Gunsmoke's" signature opening title.

Homer and company’s show began as a series of short animated skits on "The Tracey Ullman Show" and is in its 29th season and has already been renewed for a 30th on Fox.
